About The Big Dig

The Big Dig is a pirate-themed family fun day that will become an annual Father’s Day event in Caloundra, beginning in 2026. Children and adults will excitedly dig on the beach for buried treasure tokens, with every participant receiving a prize.

The event follows the highly successful format of The Big Dig Port Macquarie, which has been running for the past 14 years. It continues to grow in popularity, with approximately 350 children and 180 adults purchasing tickets in 2025.

We expect many local families to participate, particularly dads and granddads enjoying Father’s Day with their children and grandchildren. Strong interest from local media, statewide media and social media platforms is also anticipated, helping make The Big Dig Caloundra a significant community event.

Caloundra Lighthouse Heritage

Caloundra Lighthouse

The Caloundra Lighthouse, built in the early 1910s, is one of the region’s most iconic landmarks. It represents Caloundra’s long history of coastal navigation and community resilience. The earlier Bulcock watchtower (c.1880), built to watch for Russian naval activity, stood nearby until 1913. These heritage structures reflect the Sunshine Coast’s maritime past and are proudly featured in our sponsor materials.

Prizes & Giveaways

Every dig session includes a wide range of prizes donated by generous local businesses and supporters. Some tokens unlock instant prizes, while others enter participants into draws for major prizes.
