How The Big Dig works

The Big Dig is a fast-paced treasure hunt designed especially for kids. A marked section of Happy Valley is prepared with hundreds of buried tokens and prize markers. When the horn sounds, the dig begins.

Each child is allocated a digging zone and given a wristband linked to their registration. Any tokens they uncover can be redeemed for prizes at the Rotary prize tent.

On the day

  • Arrive early to check in and collect your child’s wristband.
  • Listen for safety instructions from Rotary volunteers and marshals.
  • Kids head to their allocated dig zone on the beach.
  • When the horn sounds, the treasure hunt begins!
  • After the dig, redeem tokens for prizes at the prize tent.
All dig zones are supervised by Rotary volunteers and safety marshals. Parents can assist younger children in designated areas.

Prizes & giveaways

Every dig session includes a wide range of prizes donated by generous local businesses and supporters. Some tokens unlock instant prizes, while others enter kids into draws for major prizes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the event safe for kids?

Yes. Dig zones are supervised by Rotary volunteers and safety marshals. We also provide clear safety instructions before each dig session.

What should we bring?

We recommend a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and a small plastic digging tool. Metal tools are not permitted for safety reasons.
